Interestingly, one of the most substantial barriers that people face in visiting public parks is a lack of experience in nature, entailing difficulties in knowing how to go about appreciating and engaging with all that is offered. Donors and members have made it possible, however, to provide a stipend for an Interpretative Naturalist internship position at the Mount St. Helens Vistor Center at Seaquest Park. An Interpretive Naturalist is someone who shares knowledge, experience, and insight about nature in a specific area. The internship stipend both helps reduce the financial difficulties for someone developing a career in Interpretative Naturalism at public parks while also making more staff available at the location to help guests as they explore and learn about Mount St. Helens and its eruption along with the surrounding wilderness and its regrowth.
