Thank You for Helping to Save the Shelter!

Your gifts are helping a young Boy Scout preserve state park history!

Donors are helping Isaac preserve this historic picnic shelter at Beacon Rock!

Sixteen-year-old Boy Scout Isaac Hamann is on a mission to preserve an important part of Washington State Parks history — and donors are stepping up to help!

Isaac noticed that a picnic shelter at his local state park, Beacon Rock, is in desperate need of repair. The roof of this historic shelter is deteriorating due to weather and passing time. Water damage and moss growth are causing parts of the roof to cave in, putting the entire structure at risk!

But gifts from donors like you are now helping Issac bring this shelter back to life!

Because of his generous spirit, Washington State Parks Foundation contributed $9,000 in matching funds from an anonymous family to encourage other donors to step up!  Issac’s goal was to raise $21,000 by April 30 and we are happy to report that he has raised $26,172 for the repairs

Why would donors make a gift to help Issac preserve the shelter and its history?

You see, this isn’t just any picnic shelter.

It was built by men in the Civilian Conservation Corps (CCC), a federal relief program created to help young people find work during the Great Depression. These young men built trails, bridges, and shelters all across Washington, earning just one dollar a day and sending most of their earnings home to their families.

Isaac and donors like you are helping preserve the legacy of the CCC men who built the Beacon Rock shelter.

Hear Isaac share more about his project here:

Isaac was inspired by the contributions of the young men working to support their families. He decided to restore the shelter for his Eagle Scout Service Project.

With support from donors, Isaac hopes the picnic shelter will remain a gathering place for years to come.

You can continue to help Isaac protect Washington state history by donating here. Every contribution helps to preserve the shelter for future generations to enjoy.

Thank you to all who have donated and supported Isaac’s goal!
