Mount St Helens Visitor Center Hosts Summer Naturalist

Because of our donor’s support, as well as funding from the National Association of Interpretation in 2019, state parks and the Mt. St. Helens Visitor Center was able to host the first summer Interpretive Naturalist position, Emma Runyon.

Emma was super excited to be able to share her love of the outdoors and state parks with kids and families from across Washington.

Emma developed exhibits, and created special educational programs to describe the amazing Mt. St. Helens eruption and recovery.

Families were treated to hikes and children enrolled in Junior Ranger programs.

Interpretive positions are rare within state parks even though they are very popular with visitors. Donors made a big difference in connecting visitors with interpretive programs at this special place.
