2024 Park Improvement Projects

This year, we completed 22 park improvement projects to revitalize parks, trails, campsites, and welcome centers for your next visit.

These projects were funded by gifts to the Foundation from donors—people like you—who love parks and want to make them more welcoming for all. Here is a selection of our 2024 improvements.

Deception Pass

A new gravel staircase at the North Beach Amphitheater is helping visitors safely access park programs.

 

Sacajawea

Inspired by a 9-year-old visitor, park-goers at Sacajawea now get to enjoy a new ADA swingset designed to accommodate special needs riders.

Obstruction Pass

Freshly planted native flora like ocean spray, snowberry, and red flowering currant are preventing bluff erosion at this park.

Columbia Hills

This historic wagon replica, a long-time marker of the Dulles Mountain Ranch historic district, is now restored to promote visitor enjoyment and learning.

Joseph Whidbey

A 600-foot gravel turnpike installed along the Moyer Loop Trail is protecting the trail and hikers from muddy conditions.

Lyons Ferry

Lyons Ferry staff are engaging more visitors in the region’s history and geology with a new portable amphitheater.

Grayland Beach

The large new bulletin board at Grayland Beach communicates seasonal camping updates and makes information more accessible, especially for first-time visitors.

Lewis and Clark

Visitors are enjoying educational talks at this newly revitalized amphitheater, complete with Douglas fir benches milled from the surrounding forests.

Steamboat Rock

The 25 new shade trees planted throughout this park are helping protect the environment and enhance the visitor experience.

Riverside

Riverside’s picnic shelter offers new amenities for visitors, including picnic tables, BBQs, bike repair stands, and a pet waste station. 

Seaquest

Campers and park-goers are enjoying a new water bottle refill station outside of the Mount St. Helens Visitor Center.

Blake Island, Fort Ward, & Illahee

This summer, we supported a mobile pumpout program to help boaters dispose of waste and keep Puget Sound clean. 

Arts in the Parks

Over 29 events were held at 18 parks across Washington to celebrate the cultures and traditions of Washingtonians. From Salish Sea tribal canoe journeys to cowboy poets and Afghan cuisine, dance and more — visitors discovered and connected to our shared natural, cultural, and artistic heritage.
