History of the Fur Trade on June 8 at Riverside

Guests may visit the Spokane House Interpretive Center and then talk with re-enactors portraying traders, voyageurs, trappers and Native American “Daughters of the Country” at their campsites where they may view trade items, guns, tools, furs and equipment. The re-enactors will wear authentic leather and hand-stitched clothing. Demonstrations will feature flint and steel fire­starting and flintlock shooting.

Make a Crankie! On June 8 at Cama Beach

A “Crankie” is an old storytelling tool from the 19th century. Start with a long-illustrated scroll that is wound onto two spools. Spools are loaded into a box with a viewing screen. Then the scroll is hand-cranked while the story is told, or a tune is played or a song is sung. Make your own at Cama Beach! All materials provided.

This family-friendly evening program is geared toward children of all ages. Park staff will provide educational lessons on a variety of topics, including the natural environment and local wildlife, nocturnal animals, sensory exploration, geology and hiker preparedness. Each program will include an interactive craft or activity and lasts approximately one hour. Ask for location at contact station. Signs will be posted.
